Meth Lab
Cleanup
For Real Estate Sales
The methamphetamine (meth lab) lab problem is growing in size around the country. Meth labs, are
used to make the illegal drug methamphetamine. These labs are being discovered in homes, duplexes, apartments,
hotel rooms, barns, sheds, or even motor homes. This problem has been growing at an alarming rate. In 1998,
federal, state and local authorities were involved in the seizure of thousands of Meth Labs in the US. It
seems that the number of meth labs seized by law enforcement agencies increases each year.
The problem grows daily, even though Federal agencies seek to make it harder to get the products needed to make
methamphetamine. The makers of meth are moving the locations of its production constantly. This creates a problem
for health and environmental agencies in assessing meth lab health risks.
I am buying a house, how can I tell if it was used for a Meth Lab?
At this time, there is no real
method listing homes that were used as meth labs. Your local health department can help verify if the
property in on that list. The next thing is to call the Sheriffs Department and confirm that a seizure
of chemicals took place on the property. Also, get the name of the hazardous materials contractor who
may have removed materials. The contractor will have information on what chemicals were present on the
property. Check with neighbors and ask the present owner. Also, you nose you help you
too.
