Obama and Lead Paint

What is the Connection to:

"Lead Paint and Lead Laden Dust?"

safe homesSome of us will buy a home and never even think about the possibility of Radon or Lead Paint in the home. Some Home Inspectors will request you test for them, but the possibility is almost always nil. It depends upon the State. This is where an Environmental Inspection is different than a Home Inspection.

An Environmental Home Inspection focuses on things that a regular Home Inspector is not really concerned with but could know about. The Home Inspector wants to know if the roof leaks or is it sound, the Environmental Inspector wants to know the consequences of the roof leaks. The aftermath of a roof leak can have far reaching concerns to a child with Asthma. The Mold from the water leak can cause serious problems for children with Asthma. This is the difference in methodology.

Older houses built prior to 1978 can have lead paint in them. This is the main concern you will have if you renovate the older home. An individual can be exposed to this toxic substance from deteriorated paint on the baseboards, old windows, door frames or lead contaminated dust from the past such as an old building like "The White House".

Melia Obama, the daughter of Barack and Michelle Obama could possibly be exposed to this environmental factor during the renovation of "The White House". It is common for all new residents of "The White House" to make renovations and leave their mark on this historic building. "The White House" was built in 1792 and has multiple layers of hidden toxic paint and toxic paint dust in its hidden passageways.

safe homesWhen workers start renovating the "The White House", it is important that Melia Obama be protected from the renovation dust or she could be exposed to this toxin laden dust. It is also mandatory that the area that is going to be renovated be tested for this substance in the paint and dust from the past. Melia Obama has a history of Asthma and must be protected from Mold and other environmental factors that could affect her Asthma.

Lead paint and dust in the air has been connected with physical and mental development problems in children and young adults. This form of poisoning is a problem when this toxic substance is eaten or inhaled from dust. This is typical of an old building where the parents, not knowing the consequences, unknowingly exposed their children during a homeowners renovation of their home.

Testing for this substance is easy when performed by a qualified professional. They can use an x-ray fluorescent machine to see what the different layers of old paint contain. The sad part is that the average homeowner will simply paint over the cracking and chipping toxic paint which can create long term problems for later residents. I personally do not recommend this process but it is an allowable alternative to removal of the toxic substance.

In conclusion, it is important when you rent or buy a house built prior to 1978 to have it tested for "Lead Paint". Our children are the future and need to be protected now to make sure they develop into healthy individuals so they can lead a normal life. They are our future.
