A/C Air Filters
If you live or work in Florida, the odds are you have an Air Conditioning System. All of these systems use air filters. These air filters help prevent debris, allergens and mold spores from entering and circulating in your home or office. You will find them usually located near the intake of your Air Conditioning System. Their job is to capture airborne particles while still allowing air to flow freely.
Air Filters are one of the most important parts of the A/C System’s operation. There are many on the market but we only recommend certain types. Keeping your A/C System clean is the air filters job to give you clean air in your home.
Fiberglass filters are one of the worst type of filter you can install in your A/C System. They are cheap but offer poor quality filtering of the air circulating in your home. They mainly capture debris and large particles. They do not capture mold spores or allergens. Remember, you get what you pay for.
Pleated filters are much better than fiberglass filters. They cost more but its pleated design increases the air resistance and has a larger surface area than flat filters. Thus, it allows less debris and allergens into your system. They are disposable and need to be replaced monthly.
Washable air filters are reusable but do not filter fine particles. They are cheap but reusable. We do not recommend this type of filter media due to its inefficiency in removing debris and allergens from the air.
HEPA air filters are the best for your system when it comes to quality. The A/C Unit has to be designed to operate properly to use this form of Air filtering. HEPA stands for High Efficiency Particulate Air. They reduce particles of .03 microns in the air by 99.97 percent.
Air filters need to be selected according to the A/C Unit’s Manufacturers specs and not just because someone says to use them. Most units operate fine using Pleated air filters.
Make sure you buy an extra filter when your go to Home Depot or Lowes. We recommend changing your air filters every 30 days to maintain good Indoor Air Quality.
