At Safe Homes, we understand that choosing the right type of Gas Water Heaters can be difficult. There are many different types, but it depends upon your situation.

In S. Florida, the majority of homes have an electric or instant on water heaters. Florida Power and Light has some of the lowest electric rates in the country, so it makes sense to be All Electric. But, there are some newer communities that are using gas water heaters. During our inspections, we generally see approximately 75% Electric, 20% Gas and 10% Instant On Water Heaters.

When it comes to Gas Water Heaters, there are Gas Direct Venting and a Gas Powered Venting systems. The difference between them is that Gas Power Venting Water Heaters removes combustion gases via a powered venting fan. The Gas Direct Venting Water Heater uses an exhaust pipe system only. The downside to this system is “Back Drafting” into the house of possible exhaust fumes in the house.

Regarding the two systems, the best in our opinion is Gas Powered Venting System because it uses a fan to move the combustible gases to the outside. In the end, the choice is always yours to do what is best for your situation regarding your gas water heaters. If you have any questions, feel free to contact us.
